Week 16 Teusday Afternoon Reserve Punter

Everywhere you turn nowadays people are doing decade retrospectives. Hey, I'm not above that. The one innovation of the decade (Though technically it was launched in June of 99, it became mainstream in 2000 so gimme a break) that doesn't get nearly enough due is none other than Napster. Napster doesn't get nearly enough credit. It changed how we view the internet and transformed numerous industries.

Though Napster was eventually sunk by Metallica, it's effects are still felt today. The idea of being able to download anything, anything, off the internet was launched by Napster. It spawned iTunes and Netflix. It led to all sorts of offshoots like KaZaa, Morpheus, and Limewire. That wasn't enough so torrents came into existence. The only real negative that came from Napster is the crash of PC video games. Video game retailers are bailing out of PC left and right. EA has given up on PC almost entirely because of pirated software. Still, I don't think Napster gets nearly as much credit as it deserves.

I heard yesterday that people are trying to push something through government that'll eliminate free antenna TV entirely. That's ridiculous. Why would you do that? Trust me, people who are using antennas want cable or dish, but for whatever reason, they can't. Why are you going to screw them? What's next then? Are you gonna ban free radio? Force everyone to get satellite? Really, you can't go there.

I do have an idea of what the someone should do in the movie industry. A website like Netflix should try to buy exclusive rights to a new movie. The only way to watch the movie would be to go to the website. The only reason people go to the theaters at all is because that's the only place to watch the movie. The theatre buisness will die out, whoever jumps on this ship first will make out best.

Anyway, on to the TARP.

Week 16 Power Rankings

1.) Indy Colts
2.) S.D. Chargers
3.) N.O. Saints
4.) Philly Eagles
5.) N.E. Patriots
6.) Cincy Bengals
7.) Minny Vikings
8.) Cincy Bengals
9.) Dallas Cowboys
10.) Pitt Steelers

Week 16 Thoughts I Think I Thought About Thinking

1.) I don't understand what the Colts are doing. Relaxing for three weeks before a big game is not a recipe for success. If the Colts rest in week 17, they will not be going to Miami.

2.) Never saw a game turn on one play that didn't result in any score than early in the Giants-Panthers game. On their first drive, the Giants marched down the field meeting zero resistance. They had a TD pass called back by holding. So on third and long, they hit a pass that would've resulted in a first down except Mario Manningham fumbled. Bad fumble, yeah, but the Panthers are going with Matt Moore and John Stewart. Shouldn't be too much of an issue. They go down and kick for three. Okay. Suddenly, the Giants can't stop the Panthers and the offense can no longer move the ball. I don't know what happened to the offense, but it suddenly disappeared.

3.) The Vikings are in some serious trouble. Their defense has been figured out and AP's not the focal point of the offense. With the Vikes and Saints struggling, the NFC's wide open.

4.) I'd be weary of the Steelers at this point. They seem to be peaking at the right time. Every year, it seems, a team that looked weak all year suddenly catches fire and shoots through the playoffs (Cards last year, Giants the year before that) and I think Pittsburgh has the best shot for that. It can't be an NFC team because none of those teams would shock the world by making the Super Bowl.

5.) Something I forgot to write last week. In the Falcons-Jets game (the one in which Ryan hit Gonzalez for the win at the end) on third and goal with the game on the line, Atlants ran a designed rollout pass. It failed, but they won on fourth so I forgot to mention this. Is there a dumber play call than a rollout near the goal line? You hear it all the time, it's harder to pass in the red zone because you've less space with which to work. So at the goal line you run a designed roll out and cut the already limited space by 70%? What logic is in that?

6.) Speaking of goal line plays and formations, the jumbo package needs to be eliminated. It's really very little help. You bring in all your big guys to try to pick up a yard and the D does the same to stop you. Why not spread the defense out and give your back more room to work with? I'm not saying go four wide (though sometimes that might be smart too), but something as simple as two wide on each side. Just so everyone's not packed in one spot. I would throw almost exclusively from the jumbo package.

7.) Guess Peyton doesn't love to play football as much as Favre because he listened to his coach when told to get out of the game.

8.) Thank you to my fantasy team for exploding during the fantasy playoffs. Too bad it tanked for the 8 weeks leading up to the playoffs so I wasn't playing.

9.) Maybe it's because I root for a rival NFC East team, but watching Brian Dawkins's enterance into the game against the Eagles made me wonder how anyone can root for a guy like that. Was he a great player? Absolutely. Overrated as a hitter, but a terrific ball hawking safety. Still, somebody who's such a glory hound, it's got to get annoying seeing that every week. It's all contrived too. It's not like it's just an emotional reaction. You can't convince me that he didn't spend at least an hour practicing his ballet routine before going out there on Sunday. Maybe if he'd spent less time dancing, he'd have done a better job tackling McCoy. And don't feed me that crap that you loved Philly or the organization. As soon as you could've made more money else where, you jumped ship wo fast I thought there was a WR on the ground you saw you could late hit. And don't say Philly didn't want him back. They just didn't want to pay him as much as Denver did. THink they'd rather have Dawkins rather than Macho Harris?

10.) Can you tell I'm bitter that my team's done?

Limerick of the Week

Of my playoff dreams the Giants were snatchers
They let the Matt More and Stewart be their dispatchers
In my stomach was the kick'
It really made me sick
Now just countin down the days till pitchers and catchers

Week 15 Teusday Afternoon Reserve Punter

I know I promised an extra post last week. I'm such a failure.

In other news, it snowed on Saturday. A lot. Meaning the weathermen were right. Let's all applaud the weathermen. Does any other profession get a worse deal than weathermen? I mean, when it all boils down, they're asked to predict the future, and they're usually right. But whenever they're wrong, everyone gets on them. Look, just because what they said was going to happen, didn't, does not mean they were wrong. They look at patterns and tell us what's most likely to happen based on previous evidence. For example, if I tell someone that a trip is going to take three hours and we hit traffic and end up arriving in four hours. Does that mean I'm wrong? No, the trip will usually take three hours. Something different happened to change the outcome.

Anyway, on to the TARP

Week 15 Power Rankings

1.) Indy Colts
2.) N.O. Saints
3.) S.D. Chargers
4.) Philly Eagles
5.) Minny Vikings
6.) Arizona Cardinals
7.) N.E. Patriots
8.) G.B. Packers
9.) Cincy Bengals
10.) Dallas Cowboys

Week 15 Thoughts I Think I Thought About Thinking

1.) For a defense and coach that talked so much this year, the Jets sure don't get big stops.

2.) DeSean Jackson is not an elite reciever in the NFL. He will be. He isn't yet. The one thing missing from his game is being a big threat in the red zone. His short yardage game game needs improvement. On Sunday he scored his first red zone TD of the year, but it was on a broken play. The thing is, speed becomes less of a weapon the closer you get to the endzone. I don't get to see too much of Jackson, but this trend points to improvement needed in route running. An improvement that'll likely come with experience. When that comes, he's going to be scary. Well, scarier.

3.) The one thing I learned from the Saints- Cowboys game? Mark Brunell is still in the NFL. Am I the only one who was floored by this?I do love how suddenly the Saints aren't definately the best team in the NFC. Really? One loss? It happens. By the way, I love that the Cowboys brought Shaun Suisham in to challange Nick Folk who Suishamed a kick on Sunday.

4.) Josh Cribbs reminds me of Vince Papale in Invincible when he plays with his buddies. They don't really have a shot unless Cribbs goes off. They just want to get the ball in his hands and stand around and watch. Of course, Jerome Harrison ruins the comparison this past week, but overall it applies.

5.) I don't think the Colts are going to want to see the Chargers in the playoffs. I know, the Chargers have a history of falling short in the playoffs, but that's bound to end. They'll win it all soon.

6.) The Giants need to make the playoffs if for no other reason than to give Fox the chance of doing cross promotions with the upcoming movie The Book of Eli. Can't you see the promos already?

7.) Proof positive that the result of a game decides whether a coach gets ripped is in the Steelers-Packers game. Mike Tomlins's decision to onside kick up by two late in the fourth quarter was infinitely than BB's. An onside kick has a much lower probability of working than a fourth and two. But since the Steelers won, it's all forgotten.

8.) The Redskins ran the worst trick play in the history of the NFL last night. Down 24-0 near the end of the half, they lined up for a FG. They then shifted into the Swinging Gaate. If you don't know what the Swinging Gate is, that's understandable since it's so rarely run anymore. Almost everyone on the offense shifts to one side of the field, outside the numbers, leaving two or three people in the middle; a center, a QB, and maybe an extra blocker. On the far side of the field, almost everyone is lined up in a bunch with one reciever lined up behind the line. Usually, you'll throw a quick screen to the wideout who has a convoy ahead of him.

So they shift into the swinging gate and the Giants, confused, call timeout. So Washington lines up for a FG again and again shifts into the Swinging Gate. The Giants are ready for it this time. They snap the ball to the punter, who lines up as holder on FGs, and he gets rushed badly. There's one guy for the Skins there to block four Giants rushers. Not good. So the play isn't even to throw the quick scree, but rather have a receiver sneak past his convoy and streak down the field, rendering the whole formation obsolete. The punter, under diress, flings the ball downfield where five Giants are waiting. It gets batted around, intercepted, and nearly returned for a TD. Somebody needed to be fired right there.

9.)The COlts should just go for it. You're two wins away. Winning a SUper Bowl is the ultimate goal, but going 19-0 would make you immortal.

10) One note on college football. I'm not a big follower of the collegiate game, but even I could tell how messed up the BCS is. The system claims that over 100 teams have a chance at the national title. Yet, some of those teams go on to win every game they play and still don't get a chance. How's that right? I heard how there were provabilities, had things broken different, that a one loss team would get in over an undefeated. The less traditional schools get absolutely no respect in the system. Boise State and Oregon were deserving of consideration, as was Cincinnati, but not only did Boise and Oregon not get in, they have to play each other in a bowl game.

That reeks. It reeks of the BCS people discrediting those schools. Not wanting them to beat one of the traditional schools on national TV and earning validity, they force them to play each other. This way, the team that loses, loses credibillity because they lost to a smaller name school, and the team that wins doesn't get that much credit because they beat a smaller name school. It's terrible.

The BCS was created in the late 90s to avoid split national titles like those that had happened beforehand. Fine. Now, however, the BCS people won't even hear criticisms of their clearly flawed system. Like they work for it, not the other way around. Now, I learn, the BCS games aren't even sanctioned by the NCAA, they're just glorified exhibitions put on by the BCS. The BCS is like the Sentinels on X-Men. It was created by people who thought they were doing something good for their peole, but eventually, the computer develops a mind of its own and now it's creators are scared to even speak out against it.

Limerick of the Week

In sweat his body was drenched
His thirst for pub was yet to be quenched
So he threw a fit
When told to sit
as Brett Favre refused to be benched.

Week 14 Tuesday Afternoon Reserve Punter

I need to apologize. I was really busy today and that's why this is up so late. Not only that, I didn't have time to write a pre-TARP post. I promise to make it up with a post sometime during this week.

Week 14 Power Rankings

1.) Indy Colts
2.) N.O. Saints
3.) S.D. Chargers
4.) Minny Vikings
5. Arizona Cardinals
6.) Philly Eagles
7.) CIncy Bengals
8.) Denver Broncos
9.) G.B. Packers
10.) N.E. Pats

Week 14 Thoughts I Think I Thought About Thinking

1.) Eric Mangini might have just saved his job.

2.) Extremely entertaining Sunday Night game. Don't know if it's the "Game of the Year." A game needs to be played well to be considered that. Both sides made too many mistakes for it to be considered a great game.

3.) People need to calm down about the Cowboys December problems. They lost a close game to a division rival and then to a really good Chargers team. The Cowboys may not make the playoffs, but it's got nothing to do with December, outside of the fact that their remaining of their schedule is murder.

4.) Alex Smith and Brady Quinn have to have cemented their positions as starters next year.

5.) Jet fans are getting a bit overconfident again. Their three wins that consitute their "turnaround" have been against the Bucs, Bills, and Panthers. Plus, they lose the tiebreaker to all the teams their fighting with. Tough chances making the plahyoffs there.

6.) Both Giants fans and Eagles fans need to be concerned with the play of their defenses last week. Neither QB had any issue moving the ball downfield. But Eagles fans can take solace in that it might have been just a one game aberration, Giants fans cannot hold on to that same hope.

7.) SI spent the past week doing a retrospective on the past decade in the NFL. Peter King did a horrible job. He had two columns: an All Decade Team and The Highlights of the Decade. First, Peter King never states what his favorite NFL team is. He's a Boston Red Sox fan. He loves Tom Bradu, always talks about texting him. Connect the dots. If you still can't figure it out, you probably will after this. First, I got two big problems with his all decade team. One, he left Michael Strahan off the team. His reasoning? Strahan only played eight years in the decade, as did Ed Reed who's on the team. So I guess King's saying that Strahan, one of the greatest defensive lineman of all time doesn't deserve to be on any All Decade Team. He was left off for Aaron Smith and Jason Taylor. Really.

Next, he had Mike Vrabel on the team. I still don't understand the reasoning there. Sure Mike Vrabel was a good LB, very versatile, but not deserving to be on an All Decade Team. I'm surprised he left off Troy Brown.

8.) When it came to the Highlights of the decade, King continued his lunacy. Most dramatic game of the decade? A Monday night game where tha Packers blew out the Raiders. Why? Because Favre played a great game the day after his father died. Great story? Sure. Most dramatic game of the year? No way.

Best coach and Franchise of the Decade? Bellichick and the Patriots. The two entities that shamed the NFL with a cheating scandal. Speaking of which...

The Best Single Sseaon (NOT just regular season) Team of the Decade? The 07 Pats. A team that didn't even win the title! AND was busted for cheating.

Best Playoff Game (Non SB): The Nick Harper Colts Steelers game. Not a terrible game. But there were so many that were better. How bout Panthers-Rams that went into double OT? How about Eagles Packers with 4th and 28? How about Giants Packers that went into OT? How about the Giants collpse against the Niners? These are just off the top of my head. Of course, he won't put a Favre failure in there.

Now let's talk about XLII. I know Peter doesn't want to.

Best single game SUper Bowl performance went to the absolute dominating victory the Ravens had over the Giants. Not the performance the Giants had beating the greatest single season team of the decade.

Best SB? Of course it was the poorly played Cards-Steelers game. Not XLII.

So what does King give the Giants? Best upset. A title the Giants players made clear they hated because it assumed that they were not the better team. Of course, it was an upset, but it just reeks that his only mention of the game

Now, on to pafe 2.

Bet trade? Pats deal for Moss. Bet he'd like to change that already. Shows what a great deal that was. How bout, the Chargers getting the picks for Brees and LDT for Michael Vick? How about the Chargers getting the picks for Rivers, Merriman, Sproles, and Kaeding for Eli?

Best individual rivalry? Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. Yeah, loved all the times they were on the field at the same time.Sorry about this, needed to vent.

9.) Great job by Collinsworth pointing out that Manningham's had issues with the sideline all year. That's something most Giants fans had noticed (Bad job by me never mentioning it), but I was surprises ed that a national broadcaster was aware of it.

10.) The place to attack any defense is over the middle of the field. That's especially true for the Giants. The misconception with the Giants is that their DBs are weak so they should be attacked deep down the sidelines. That's not entirely true. Their CBs are solid enough, They could defend the sidelines and fly patterns. Their safeties and LBs are weak. It's easy to pick them apart between the two units.

Limerick of the Week

Patriot fans have started cryin
Cuz Randy Moss has quit tryin
But they need not curse
It could easily be worse
And they could be rootin for the Gians.

Week 13 Teusday Afternoon Reserve Punter

Gotta talk about something I no very little about: American Idol. I've a few problems with the show. First, they're only finding pop stars. That's cutting off quite a few people who'd want to win. Rappers and rock singers have no shot. Success in music has to do with more than pure singing ability,of course I know this stuff with my experience in the industry. Can you imagine anyone else singing for the Chili Peppers instead of Anthony Kiedis? He's not a traditionally good singer. Does not have a great voive, but he works for them, and someone else wouldn't.

My bigger issue with Idol is purely logical. Follow me here. The show is ridiculously succesful. Anytone with any singing talent, and plenty of people with none, try out for the show. So the people who end up in the top ten are logically the best of the group. Then, the following year, the same people try out other than last year's top ten. Doesn't that mean the talent pool is dwindekuing every year? I know there's an age restriction; I think you have to be at least 18, but all the people who get in to the new top ten aren't 18 year olds. Most are probably people who tried previous years, but fell short. Is it really any wonder that the first winner has had the most success, followed only by the third?

One other note on reality shows, I watched the debut of "Jersey Shore" last week. I was a bit nervous about what the show would do Jersey's already diminished reputation around the nation, but I quickly was hooked in. The show is hilarious. There's 8 people on the show, but really there's only 2. All the guys are the same guy and all the girls are the same girl. I'd reccomend you tune in just for the accents. Great stuff

BTW, I'm being mauled by all these Hess commercials for their new race car. Hess has promoted their holiday truck for years now. As if people have made it a tradition to buy the 25 dollar truck every year. I don't know anyone who gets gas from Hess, let alone toys.

Aight, on to the TARP

Week 13 Power Rankings

1.) N.O. Saints
2.) Indy Colts
3.) Minny Vikings
4.) S.D. CHargers
5.) 'Zona Cardinals
6.) Cincy Bengals
7.) Philly Eagles
8.) Denver Broncos
9.) Dallas Cowboys
10.) N.E. Pats

Week 13 Thoughts I Think I Thought About Thinking

1.) Rex Ryan's the sole reason why there's any scrutiny of the way Mark Sanchez slides. Why'd he have to bring in Joe Girardi? He couldn't find a local little league coach to do it? That was grand standing at it's worst. How hard is it to slide? I could do it! But that's not even the worst part. After the game, he critcized Sanchez for going in headfirst to try to pick up a crucial first down. Sanchez hurt himself doing that, twisting his kneee, but it was absolutely the right move. You have to teach your QB when to slide feetfirst not how. Sanchez did the right thing going in head first there, but his coach called him a "knucklehead" for doing so.

2.) I'm far from being a Brett Favre apolagist, but his game this week was understandeable. He was due for a bad game, and you could play a lot worse of a game than he did on Sunday.

3.) Robert Meecham made the greatest play this football season. Chasing the defender who'd intercepted Brees, getting to him, stripping him (only of the ball thankfully as Olbermann would say), taking the ball the other way for six. Crazy. 14 point swing. It was a let down game for New Orleans coming off an emotional win with a short week and a sneakily tough opponent were able to pull off the win after being down early. Impressive.

4.) Way too many short kicks are missed in the league. I think GMs fall in love with a big leg. Give me a kicker who's automatic from 35, steady from 45, and okay from 50 anyday. At least that way you know where you stand with him. You know what's scoring position. You have these guys who could reach the net from midfield, but can't kick it straight. Enough to give any fan a heart attack.

5.) Don't know what's wrong with Brady. He's not seeing open recievers, he's overthrowing them when he does see them, and just making poor throws. It's not his knee. Those picks he threw last week had nothing to do with injury. I fully expect him to explode this week against the Panthers.

6.) Looks like the Niners are finally figuring out Alex Smith. He can't pass from under center, so they're going shotgun heavy and he's thriving. You'll remember he never threw from under center in college when he was so succesful. This might hurt Gore, though.

7.) Too many times I am seeing QBs drop into the shotgun on short yardage situations. I don't get it. Why are you taking the threat of the run out? Of course, you can run from shotgun, but that's more of a surprise. No defense plays the run when a team's in the gun. They don't have to in short yardage situations because it's a slow developing play that they could react in time. Runs from shotgun are ost effective in obvious passing downs, not when the offense should cosider running.

8.) Money lost due to incarciration: about $100 million. Money paid in escrow to support dogs: $1,000,000. Getting to come in to a blowout and run up the score on your former team because they released you when you went to jail: classless.

9.) Flozell Adams is the dirtiest player the NFC East has seen in a while. Jon Runyan, Shaun O'Hara, Antonio Pierce, and Brian Dawkins didn't hold a candle to him.Leg whipping a defender who beat you is one thing, but attacking him from behind?

10.) Why isn't the shovel pass in every playbook? Has it ever not worked near the goalline? Easily the most underrated and underutilized trick play in the league.

Week 12 Tuesday Afternoon Reserve Punter

So Tiger Woods crashed his car. So his wife may or may not have been attacking him with a golf club. Why does everyone care so much? If he's not getting arrested, he doesn't owe us any more information than he's already given. Why are we, as society, so fascinated with anyone with any fame's personal lives? Why have we become such a paparazzi society?

"Oooh look! That actor who's only played backup roles in terrible movies was picking his nose and we got pictures!" "Check it out, this actress was harassed by a cameraman at an airport and she told them to leave her alone! Isn't this great?"

I don't get it. I don't get all the interest. In fact, I feel sorry for the harassees. I know, it's hard to imagine feeling bad for people who are filthy rich, but they are human. Have you ever seen that show TMZ on TV? It's the most retarded thing. They'll show a bunch of people in a staff room telling their boss what lame thing they have on a pseudo-celebrity, then one of them will make a really crappy joke, but everyone'll laugh as if they were listening to George Carlin.

That's another thing. It's usually barely famous people. The real stars know how to get their privacy, so you won't be seeing anything about them anyway unless they do something really stupid. And the targets of the paparazzi can do no right. If they ignore the people, they're portrayed as being a snob. If they interact at all without giving anything to them, then the paparazzo'll be emboldened to keep trying to envoke some juicy response. If they cooperate, then they're desperate for attention. If they get angry, that's just gold.

Alright, on to the TARP

Week 12 Power Rankings

1.) N.O. Saints
2.) Indy Colts
3.) Minny Vikings

Week 12 Thoughts I Think I Thought About Thinking

1.) I realize everyone's sick of it, but one last thing on concussions. Hines Ward needs to shut up. That's what's wrong with the NFL, questioning a guy's toughness because he sits out a game. The problem with concussions is that you can't see one. You could see a seperated shoulder, a broken ankle, busted knee, but you don't see the effects of a concussion. A player can seem completely fine, until they get hit in the head and they're out cold again.

Matt Stafford exemplifies the problem perfectly. He was lauded for coming back into a game after hurting his shoulder, in obvious pain. People with concussions think they've got to do the same. It's the old school mentality in the NFL of "tape it up and get back in there". The players with the mindset of the 70s and the 80s consider it soft to sit out because of a concussion. They were apparently the tough ones, but they'd be considered soft by those who played in leather helmets. Why don't people get it? The game's evolved a long way. From a barbaric affair that was little more than a gang fight to a cerebral struggle of two sides that are almsot physical equals.

The game's still evolving. Go with it. Protect people with concussions. Protect them from the media. Protect them from their teammates. Most of all, protect them from themselves. Hire independent neurologists to inspect the players after every game. If they so much as suspect a concussion for any reason, the player gets placed on IR. That's it, season's over. I don't care about any of the other injuries in football, but head injuries could be life altering during and after the playing career.

2.) Is there a rule in the NFL that states that if a player has two last names he has to be at least decent? Jones-Drew, Sims-Walker, Fletcher-Baker, Randle-El. It works almost everytime. However, the player can have two last names, but two first names nullifies the effect, like BenJarvus Green-Ellis.

3.) Adrian Peterson can no longer be considered easily the best HB in the NFL.Chris Johnson's simple amazing.

4.) Fantasy experts are worse than the regular NFL experts. I'm convinced that they don't even watch the games. They simple crunch numbers. If I was given all the fantasy stats that ESPN puts at their experts' disposal, I could do a better job than Matt Berry. They don't help you at all. Last week, the players they said should be picked up were: Rock Cartwright (the two HBs ahead of him on the depth chart were seriously hurt and he had a big game), Bernard Scott (had a big week filling in for hurt starter Cedric Benson), and Fred Jackson (already should be owned in most leagues). Aren't those pickups obvious? Those are all at least a week late. A fantasy expert needs to help me get a player before he explodes, not after.

If that wasn't enough to realize the ineptitude of fantasy experts' knowledge of football, one needs only to go to Matt Berr's column last week. He's trying to make some joke about calling Kerry Rhodes "butthead" so he and Revis could be "Revis and Butthead." Fine, whatever, I don't care about that. What I do care about is when he says that he wants to call Rhodes that, he says it's not because he doesn't lile Rhodes, "he's fantastic". Kerry Rhodes was benched the next day due to poor performance. Nice job there by Berry.

5.) Vince Young might soon step out of being a Jeff George Phenom and being a legit NFL starting QB. He's making everyone forget why he was benched in the first place. Think back, it wasn't really because of performance. It was attitude and the fact that Collins was winning. Well, attitudes can be changed and Collins is no longer winning. Of course, we do need to wait and see how Young responds to some real adversity to see if his attitude's really changed, but that 99 yard game winning drive he had was amazing, topped only be the final play. The throw to Britt could be something to build a career off of. Speaking of Britt...

6.) How about these Rutgers guys, huh? Kenny Britt seems like he's going to be a really good WR in years to come, and Ray Rice is already among the best backs in the league. Who knew Rutgers could produce stars?

7.) Listening to the Jets radio broadcast last week was hilarious. Any Mark Snchez throw that didn't end up as an interception was applauded for being a smart decision. It was ral fun listening.

8.) It seemed that Brian Dawkins took the Eagles' defense to Denver with him to play the Giants. The was the Broncos played, I have no doubt that the coaching staff picked Dawkins's brain on how to attack. That would confuse the Giants because it was probably different from how they looked on tape all year. But, how different could it really have been? They only had a couple of days to implement the game plan. Maybe that was their regular defense, but it sure looked like how the Eagles played in the playoffs last year. Good job all around there.

9.) The Colts will not go 16-0 and the Saints will not go 19-0. Done and done.

10.) College note this week. USC and UCLA played their annual game last week. They've a very heated rivalry over the years. With under two minutes left, USC had the ball and were up by two TDs. Game over. Pete Carrol has a history of running up the score, but told his team to kneel down and end the game- except UCLA coach Rick Nuheisel wasn't content with that. He called a timeout. So USC responded by throwing a long TD pass on the next play. I think UCLA was in the wrong here for complaining afterwards. They called timeout, indicating that they didn't consider the game over. That they wouldn't let USC just kneel on the ball to end it, so USC responded in kind. IF UCLA wanted to call timeout, they should've been ready for a response and should've stopped the pass play. Plain and simple.

Week 11 Teusday Afternoon Reserve Punter

Okay, I;d really appreciate that if I've got someething in my nose, that someone would tell me. It's not rude. It's the right thing to do. I'd much rather you let me know than walk around all day like that. It's like if someone's paants are unzipped, let them know. A second of embarassment pales in comparison to what you're sentencing them to otherwise.

People are going crazy with the release of the new Twilight movie. I don't get it, really, but I've come to grips with the fact that I won't get why an unoriginal story about werewolves and vampires is so enthralling. I also understand that people won't understand why I like some of the stuff I like, for example, superhero movies. I'm fine with that.

What I don't get, however, what I've never gotten is why people go so crazy for the release of a movie. I've never gotten that worked up for a movie. The movie I've gotten the most excited about pre-release was probably The Simpsons. Still, I'd never wait in line, in costume, to see it. In fact, it was just a matter of coincidence that I saw it the day it was released. Really, it was. We'd gone to the mall. While the girls were going to spend hours window shopping, a few of us decided to go see amoive. When we got to the theatre, we saw that the only movie starting within a half an hour was, in fact, The Simpsons.

To be fair, though, I'd been a fan of the show for 15 years and had been anticipating a movie for almost as long. So my excitement, was somewhat justified. Yet, the way people get when a new Star Wars comes out, or Harry Potter, or Twilight, seems beyond comprehension. I envy those people. To be that excited about something must be tremendous.

Anyway, on to the TARP

Week 11 Thoughts I Think I Thought About Thinking

1.) Terrible losses by both the Steelers and the Bengals. The Steelers loss was far worse. The Bengals were coming off a few huge divisional wins and travelled west to play a weak team with huge Jeff George Phenomenon potential. Classic trap game. That said, the way Cincy lost was horrible with Caldwell fumbling the kickoff at the end. Keep in mind though, Cincy's got two fluke losses this year.

2.) The Lions-Browns game was a picture perfect example of why my idea for a the NFL just putting the crappy teams together. Yes, you'll take away some huge upsets like Chiefs-Steelers and Raiders-Bengals, but you make up for that with absolute classics like Lions-Browns. Forget the UFL, I'd much rather watch this. Anyway, as for the game itself, the ending was tremendous. Enough's been said about how gutsy Matt Stafford was, don't need me to harp on it. What I do want to talk about is the two coaches.

First, Jim Caldwell, what are you doing? That's your franchise running out there with a potentially seperated shoulder! This game's not that important. You can't risk the health of your organization's future. You could see see Stafford mouthing after the play, "It popped out!" while holding his left shoulder. Dumb.

3.) I am not fan of Eric Mangini. Never liked him as a head coach. Liked him even less with how he handled the QB situation all this year. However, I'm hearing people ripping Mangini for calling a timeout after the pass interference call. Either to argue the call or, as he said,, to get the right personel on the field. Critics are saying that the timeout was dumb because it allowed Stafford to come back in to the game to toss the gwinning TD, he wouldn't have been aloowed in otherwise. There is absolutely no way Mangini should've known Stafford would return from the hit he took.

Whatever the reason for him calling timeout, it wasn't a terrible decision. It turned out to hurt him, but he did nothing wrong there. This is a classic example of media reacting to a result rather than the decision. If Stafford came back in and thre an incomplete pass, or got hurt, Caldwell would've been destroyed for letting Stafford back in. Now, though< Mangini gets ripped solely because they lost.

4.) It's got to be said, Brett Favre is having an unbelievable season, all things considered. Media love aside, Favre deserves a ton of credit. Not saying he doesn't get enough, we all know he does, but still he's playing great.

5.) With all the throwback jerseys the NFL's played with this year, it was only a matter of time before they played a "Throwback Offense" game like they did with Cowboys-Redskins.

6.) After just a little more maturation and consistancy with his intermediate routes, DeSean Jackson will joing Larry Fitzgerald and the Johnsons in the elite group of WRs. Moreover, he and Maclin have the potential to be the best WR tandem in the NFL down the road.

7.) The Texans lost last night, partly because they decided to settle for a 49 yard FG atempt for the win. Most people are saying that the Texans had enough time to run another play, call timeout, and set up for a shorter FG try. This is true, but the kicker's got to make th kick. An NFL kicker should be able to make that kick. No, it's not a chip shot by any means, but it's not 59 yards. That's your job, make the kick.

8.) Jay Cutler is rattled. That's the only explanation for why he's missing WRs running wide open deep. It seems he's trying to avoid a pick so much that he's trying to be too perfect. He wasn't putting any air on the deep balls. A bad NFL QB could make the throws he was missing.

9.) I've no idea why Rex Ryan hasn't benched the Sanchise. Not to start a game, but during a game that he's stinking up the joint, sit him down. Give him a breather. Let him watch. Tell him he's going to start the following week, no problem, but let him sit for a half.

10.) Note to the Jets and their great CB Revis: You got psyched out so badly this week. The Jets wanted to make sure Moss didn't go off because of all the pre game talking, they forgot to cover Welker. Even after the game, the Jets wanted to point out how great Revis played (Moss did catch a TD in front of him). You know, as great as Revis is, why not put him on the guy who's single handedly murdering your team in the passing game. The Jets wouldn't do it, it might've been percieved as if Revis was scared of Moss or something, so Welker did whatever he wanted. Make adjustments people!

Week 10 Tuesday Afternoon Reserve Punter

Got drawn in to watching a few hours of the History Channel this past weekend. It got me thinking how ridiculously unreliable history is. One special was on the Battle Of Thermopylae. The famous last stand that the movie 300 was based on, where 300 Spartans (Joined by 1000 other Greeks shhhh!) stood up and got slaughtered by a gigantic Persian army. My big issue with the historical account, as was the case with a lot of the real old stories, there was one historian who took account of the battle. One guy. How do we know his credibility? Is it at all possible that the armies were evenly numbered, but the Greeks got slaughtered? The entire account is scribed by a Greek, who could have written anything to make his side look better. Not possible? Forget possible, it's friggin probable.

Yet, we choose to believe what this guy says, but people choose not to believe religious history. Be it Biblical history, Quranic history, people choose not to consider them reliable, but one Greek saying that 300 Spartans fought against hundreds of thousands Persians? Completely credible. They even had a quote from him when he was recounting a meeting before the battle. The Persians sent over an officer telling the Greeks to stand down because they were grossly outnumbered, saying "Our arrows will block out the Sun." A Greek officer replies, "Then we shall fight our battle in the shade!" You're telling me that exchange happened? That doesn't sound a bit like embellishment?

Week 10 Thoughts I Think I Thought About Thinking

1.) After a football weekend like this past one, I wish I wrote a MARP. Anyway, let's start with the hot topic of the week: BB's decision to go for it on fourth and 2. Not sure if it was the right call, but it was not as horrible a call as its being made out to be.A call should not be judged by its outcome. Peter King does it perfectly, he compares it to Grady Little. Little did not make a terrible call, he stuck with a tiring ace in a must win rather than to turn to a terrible bullpen that lost them many games that year, including that one. They lost, so he got ripped. I hate second guessing.

2.) Now, as for the call itself, let's think of it this way. If they converted, the Pats win. If they don't they all but guarantee that the Colts win. So basically, it's like going for two down by one with no time left, something I've always backed. Now I realize it's not a perfect parallel, when down by two the team is down, but it is comparable in that you decide to try to win with the ball in your hands. When a coach goes for two and the win and succeeds, the media loves him. So why rip the coach in this situation?

3.) I heard people talking about MJD's kneel down. Down by one with about a minute left, the Jags had the ball around the Jets 10. The Jets decide to let the Jags score so they could get the ball back with time left. MJD took a knee at the one. He not only ran more clock, but also picked up a first down so the Jags could run out the clock and kick an extra point to win. I heard people questioning if it was the right move citing the fact that something could've gone terribly wrong on the kick. Yes, that is true, but you can't play that way. With that argument, something could go horribly wrong when the Jets get the ball. If you can't convert an extra point with no time left, you didn't deserve to win. Also, if it was such a terrible decision, why did it upset the Jets? The J-E-T-S JetsJetsJets wanted him to score. It seems fairly obvious that what the opposition wants is usually directly in conflict with what's good for you.

4.) The NFL needs to step in when it comes to concussions. A concussed player needs to be put on IR. Don't mess around. There are whispers that Westbrook's career might be over because he came back too fast. Forget his career, think about his life! You don't want your players to have serious head problems after they retire. Then when you consider the fact that Westbrook's a running back, it makes zero sense. The defense knows he's coming back from a concussion, they're going to pound his head as much as possible. The NFL needs to step in, hire all the medical staff, and decide that a concussed player is not eligible to play for the remainder of the year.

5.) It has to be said, the assuming Orton's healthy, as of now the Broncos made out tremendously from their preseason trade with Chicago.

6.) Can we just put the Browns, Chiefs, Raiders, and Lions in one division and just have them play each other every week?Nobody wants to see Ravens - Browns, so let's do it. It doesn't have to be permanent. This division would not get a playoff spot and the teams will be like the England Premiership, where if a team is crappy for a couple of year and a member of the division is showing signs of life, the flip flop. Why not?

7.) One last thing about BB's decision. He did make a huge mistake in that last drive. He burned all his timeouts, uselessly, and was unable to challenge the fourth down play. That was inexcusable.

8.) Okay, Mangini needs to step away from the quarterbacks. Let Quinn play out the rest of the year. You're not going anywhere, so find out what you have.

9.) Memo to the Jets defense: Make one, just one, late game stand then you could talk.

10.) There will not be an undefeated team this year..

Week 9 Tuesday Afternoon Reserve Punter

In the past few years, well, decade I guess, the trend in Hollywood has been to make nostalgic movies. Movies for adults about characters they grew up with as kids. At first, these movies were targeted for all audiences, but lately they've gone more to just adults. Movies like The Drak Knight and Wtachmen especially. There've been movies about comic book heroes, cartoons (Transformers, G I Joe), and video games (Doom, Final Fantasy, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter). My question is where is the Legend of Zelda movie?

It seems painfully logical to make such a movie. The stories are basically written out for you within the games. Fantasy movies like LOTR have gotten great success. With all the volumes in the Zelda series, it could become a franchise. I don't understand why it hasn't been don yet. You could take almost any game and make it into two, not one, movies. Like Ocarina of Time could be split into a young Link and adult Link movie. Link to the Past could easily be done with part one being the quest for the Master Sword and part two being the journeys in the Dark World. Each game has a great story written out perfectly. All that needs to be done is to have it adapted.

So why hasn't it been done?

Week 9 Thoughts I Think I Thought About Thinking

1.) and 2.) Everyone's focusing in on the conservative play calling down the stretch of the Giants - Chargers game. A game the Giants had to have. Up by three, the defense picked Rivers off and returned to the Chargers four. From there the Giants ran four plays. The first one, a run that took the ball to the one, was penalized for holding so it became first and goal from the 14. From their the Giants ran the ball three times, forcing the Chargers to burn two timeouts. Giants kicked a field goal and gave SD the ball with over two minutes left to play. They proceeded to march down the field and score the winning TD. The play calling issue arises with the three runs. Manning had been playing a very good game, so why not give him at least one shot at the end zone to put the game away? That's playing not to lose in a near must win game.

That's the issue most people are bringing up. My issue is with the coaching handbook that everyone seems to follow. This might sound crazy at first, but my issue is with the fourth down play call. In my opinion, that was a four down situation. Eli Manning said after the Super Bowl that in a game winning drive he'd rather be down by four than three. The reason being that down by three you tend to get safe once in gield goal range and play for a tie. The same could be said about six. If an offense would rather be down by four than three, then they'd rather be down by 6 than 3. It's the same thing. So on fourth and goal at the 4 you go for the end zone and the win. If you fail, you give the opponents the ball at their own four down by three. They're looking for a field goal. That's it. Of course, if there was under a minute left, you kick the FG, but over two minutes with the opponents holding one more timeout. I say you go for it. The risk/reward factor is worth it. If you fail, you'll get ripped in the media, but that's the problem as well. Too many coaches play it safe so they won't get ripped in the media.

3.) Another thing that came out of that game was the re hashing of the 2004 draft and who made the right move and who's the best QB. The three QBs in question all have different skill sets. Ben is the most physically gifted of the group; strongest arm and scrambling. Rivers is the most accurate of the three, but is a statue. Manning is the headiest QB of the group, sets protection calls out blitzes and audibles as well as anyone in the game not named Manning. As for which teams got the right guy and who got the wrong one, I think the way it broke down, each QB went to the best situation for him and each team got the right QB for their organization.

4.) I was going to say how dumb it was for Tampa, a winless team at the time, to wear throwbacks to a time when they managed to go a whole season winless, but they won. That shut me up. Maybe they should wear those until they lose.

5) I seriously hope that there is no punishment for Ochocinco for trying to "bribe" the refs. Ochocinco gets annoying at times, but he was just goofing around. No harm done.

6,) I've come 180 degrees on the Wildcat. Sort of. Only with the Dolphins. Most teams use the Wildcat as trick plays, but Miami keeps it as a key part of their offense. Also, they've got it mastered. They're willing to use it on any situation and use it effectively.

7.) I'm hearing a ton of praise for the job Jim Caldwell is doing for Indy and I'm not sure I agree. The more I see of the Colts, the more I'm convinced that the entire offense is run by Peyton. The defense is not too good. The whole team is the offense and the whole offense is Peyton so the whole team is Peyton.

8.) This makes me wonder how good a coach Tony Dungy actually was. I've always found him a bit overrated. I've heard people argue that Jon Gruden won in Tampa with Dungy's team so that's a win for Dungy, but I'd argue that if that's true and the only difference in the team not winning one year and winning the next year was the head coach. Then the problem was probably the head coach. Then he goes to Indy, a team ready to win. A team with one of the greatest QBs in NFL history. A team's whose only weakness was defense so they bring in a defensive minded coach. Defense does not improve and they manage to win only one SUper Bowl though having the best team in the league for a few years. I think Dungy gets HOF credit because everyone wants a great black head coach so his credentials were inflated. Luckily though, there is a great black head coach in the NFL, he's in Pittsbuirgh. And there's another one growing in San Francisco.

9.) Cornerbacks do not make enough money. Simple. That's the reason there's such a short supply of great ones. If a guy with that much athleticism can catch, he plays reciever. They make more money. It's only if his hands aren't great that he goes to DB. If, however, DBs were given more money, money that they deserve because great DBs change a game, and publicity great athletes would jump on that side as well because there's less competition there.

10.) I'd sign up for a Colts Saints SB right now.

Week 8 Tuesday Afternoon Reserve Punter

Just came from fulfilling my civil obligation of voting for one jerk who doesn't give a damn about me, nor can relate to me at any level, over another jerk who doesn't give a damn about me, nor can relate to me at any level, on the sole basis that Jerk A is affiliated with the political party that seems less likely to run this country to the ground. Oversimplified? Possibly. Ignorant? Probably. Mostly National? Definitely.

I'm glad election season's over. Absolutely hate political ads. They're so obviously slanted and contain zero pertinent information. What all political ads boil down to is two things. First, they'll basically slander the opponent by taking one thing he or she said out of context, blow it way out of proportion, and somehow tie that in to everything the opponent stands for. Oh and the opponent's image will always, ALWAYS, be in black and white and he'll be making some weird face. Then they'll show whoever the ad's for in full color interacting with families, mostly children, without a coast and the sleeves of his dress shirt rolled up. How that means I should vote for him, I don't know, but apparently it works. Truth be told, the more ads I see for a politician, the more I begin to dislike him.

Okay, first a disclaimer before this week's TARP: My family pulled one of it's vintage scheduling screwjobs on me and I was unable to watch any football on Sunday. None. So, unfortunately, I won't be able to analyze the games as brilliantly as I usually do. Most of this will be from box scores, highlights, and other columns.

Week 8 Thoughts I Think I Thought About Thinking

1.) As much as it would have sucked, I wish I'd seen the Giants game. I could have give you a better thought of what I think they did wrong. Fortunately, though, the answer seems clear: Everything. I've no idea what happened to Manning. He started off the season tremendously, but has faltered the pass two games. The Saints exposed the Giants safeties and every team knows it not. They still can't get pressure. Speaking of which, I'm done with this whole moving defensive ends all along the line to confuse the offense and get more pressure. No. It's a like the Wildcat. You can be successful with it, but if that's all you have you're in trouble. They need to get back to lining up traditional tackles in the middle to get a push and have the ends try to come around the edge.

2.) "If Favre does play this year, the Vikings will lose at Lambeau" Just the type of foresight you've come to expect from the TARP.

3.)- 9) Really should've known that Young would play well. He's a prefect candidate for the Jeff George Phenomenon (someone else has probably printed this, sorry for that. But I have had this idea for a while). This happens when a physically gifted QB who's been a backup for a while finally gets ino the starting lineup after much clamoring by the fans. The QB will usually have to have a different skill set than the starter, but will almost always have one fatal flaw. The backup QB gets in and defenses aren't really ready for him and he goes on a hot stretch. This stretch varies in time. It could be a few games, half a season, a whole season. It's just until one defense finally says "Wait a minute, he's Jeff George!" and capitalizes on his fatal flaw and everyone remembers why he was a backup.

Notable Jeff George phenoms : Kerry Collins, Alex Smith, Old Randall Cunningham, Old Warren Moon, Doug Flutie, Tommy Maddox, Derek Anderson, Kent Graham, Jeff George (Washington), Jeff George (Minny), AJ Feely, the Detmers, Rob Johnson, Quincy Carter, Trent Edwards, Danny Kanell, Chad Henne, Vinny Testaverde, Jon Kitna

The key to the Jeff George Phenomenon is that defenses should not be ready for him at all. That's where Eric Mangini messed up trying to hide who his starting QB was at the start of the year. If he'd said at the start of training camp "Quinn is our guy" and didn't waver at all, Anderson would have performed when Quinn was pulled. Hiding your starter nullifies all Jeff George potential.

Of course, there are players like Brady and Warner who go on to play really well. They're not Jeff George phenoms, they were great QBs in hiding. They were given a shot and they showed their talent. You have to disappear in to relative obscurity to be a Jeff George Phenom. You disappear on to some team's roster waiting to for your chance to be reborn as another Jeff George Phenom.

10.) Was it cheap that I wasted so many numbers on one topic? Yeah, probably, but again didn't see the games, don't get paid, and the Yanks are in the World Series. Any complaints should be sent to my editor.

The Giants were destroyed by the Eagles

Week 7 Tuesday Afternoon Reserve Punter

I've seen commercials for the new DJ Hero video game coming out (or it's already out, I'm not sure). Apparently the game is surrounded around the idea of using a turntable rather than a guitar. Now, I'm wondering where my royalties are for this idea. Some of you may remember that I talked about a game like this almost a year ago. Well, not a year, but right after this Super Bowl. Is there no integrity anymore? Clearly the makers of Guitar Hero regularly read my blog and saw a brilliant idea and capitalized on it. I demand something in return! Fifty percent of the profit sounds fair.

On to the TARP

Week 7 Power Rankings

1.) New Orleans Saints
2.) Indy Colts
3.) Denver Broncos
4.) N.E. Patriots
5.) Pittsburgh Steelers
6.) Minny Vikings
7.) Cincy Bengals
8.) Atlanta Falcons
9.) Arizona Cardinals
10.)

Week 7 Thoughts I Think I Thought About Thinking

1.) Amazing performance by the Saints. I don't know how many teams make that comeback. The Jets blew out Oakland 38-0, but if the Radiers had been spotted a 24-3 lead after the first half, the Jets would not have been able to come back. Not many teams would, regardless of the opponent.

2.) The Dolphins are not bad, at all. They played well enough to beat both the Saints and the Colts. Both teams ended up taking advantage of tiny windows, but what Miami's done is still pretty impressive. I wouldn't want to go to Miami during this season. They're much better than 2-4.

3.) Is Eli Manning the only QB that openly points out the Mike by shouting "20's the Mike!"? Other QBs probably do it when setting their protection, but they probably have some code. It seems to me what the Cardinals did was have two possible blitzers. Whomever Manning pointed out would back out and the other would blitz. Don't know why it took so long for someone to use that strategy, but if the Giants don't do something to rectify this, it'll spell trouble.

4.) The Chargers, late in their game, had the ball first and goal at the seven. They handed it to LDT who ran it down to the two. Then on second, handed it to LDT who took it to the one. Then on third, handed it to LDT who got stuffed for no gain. Then on fourth, handed it to LDT who got stuffed again. Then every fantasy manager who drafted LDT over Chris Johnson proceeded to slitting their wrists.

5.) Terrible, terrible tripping call in the Steelers-Vikings game that nullified a late Vikings TD. Not sure what the ref was looking at, but whatever it was, it wasn't tripping. Also, for all the peeople who love to say how much of a "football player" Brett Favre is needs to see the lame effort he gave on a pick return. I've seen worse efforts, but not by a "football player". I don't think Eli Manning is a "football player". He's just a guy who plays football.

6.) Can someone explain to me why the only criticisms media types have black QBs is always mental? Either he doesn't study hard enough. Or he can't handle the complexities of the offensive system. Or they can't feel the pressure. It's never "Hey, that guy's just not that good." I don't care how much film JaMarcus Russell watches, that' s not going to keep him from overthrowing wide open WRs. Plus, I don't think his work ethic is the issue. He's always finding the open reciever, he's just missing him. Someone who doesn't study won't find the open reciever. If Jason Campbell was white, he'd be considered a game manager, but, somehow, there's no such thing as black game managers.

7.) Ridiculous play by Tony Romo. Avoided four potential sacks then found Crayton in the end zone. Can't teach that. Guess his leadership was fine on that play.

8.) Alex Smith sighting this weekend. The Niners aren't going anywhere with Shaun Hill this year. He's a good QB if you have a great defense. He won't win you games. So why not go to Smith? Chances are they won't go anywhere with Smith either, but he;s a former number one pick so give him one last shot. Find out what you have in him.

9.) In a span of a minute Tony Siragusa and Darryl Johnston messed up the names of two players on one play. James Harrison caught Adrian Peterson from behind. Siragusa said it was a good play by "James Harris" and Johnston said the "Adrian Peter" was looking for someplace to go. Guys, James Harris and Adrian Peter are their respective fathers. They James Harris-son and Adrian Peter-son. Okay? Man, these guys are the worst announcers in football. Somehow, the end up doing almost every Giants game.

10.) How messed up was this year's game in England? Not only is the team that's playing called the Patriots, representing everything from the Revolutionary War, but also they're the New England Patriots. So you're sending the New England Patriots to England? To point out that they're Old England? Good job there.

As they bomb the Phills aces

Week 6 Tuesday Afternoon Reserve Punter

I've always been fascinated with the desi music scene. I'm not as familiar with the current scene, but growing my sisters really loved this stuff. What always intrigued me was how they came up with singles. The famous songs came from hit numbers in the movies. The best thing about the songs was that the singers remained relatively unknown. Nobody knew who sang the song, but knew who danced on screen to them. Isn't that a bit backwards? The people who can't sing a note were more famous for the song than those who sang them. Part of the reason for this was that the singers were generally old and or unattractive. If that wasn't bad enough, the actors would also end up "performing" the songs in concerts!

Now I assume this has changed somewhat by now, but there's still something fishy going on. If, on PTV, you ever see a singer performing at a concert, they are never, never, actually singing. The art of lip synching has yet to be perfected over there. On problem is that they've not figured out that it'd be a good idea to record a different rendition of the song. Nope, they just play the studio version over the speakers. Noone sounds like that in reality. If that wasn't enough, the performers will regularly talk into their live mics to pump up the crowd. There's two issues there. First, they sound nothing like whomever is singing. More importantly though, they'll talk into the mic while they're supposed to be singing! Totally ruining the effect.

Okay, anyway on to the TARP

Week 6 Power Rankings

1.) New Orleans Saint

2.) Indy Colts

3.) Minny Vikings

4.) Denver Broncos

5.) New England Patriots

6.) Atlanta Falcons

7.) New York Giants

8.) Baltimore Ravens

9.) Chicago Bears

10.) S.D. Chargers

Week 6 Thoughts I Think I Thought About Thinking

1.) The Jets have forgotten that Mark Sanchez is a rookie QB. The key to winning with a rookie QB is to play good defense, run the ball, and be solid on special teams. The Jets can do all three. They need to ask Sanchez to manage the games, not win them. He may be able to carry the team somewhere down the line, but not now. He's a rookie. Give the Roethlisberegr/Flacco treatment.

2.) Down 45-0 nothing coming out of halftime, the Titans sent Collins in. Why? Did they think he had a shot to bring them back? It wasn't until 59-0 that they brought in Young. Why then? If you were going to bring Young in anyway, why not to start the second half? Moreover, if Young wasn't playable down 45-0 then he shouldn't be playable at 59-0. Make a stand on Young. Is he the QB of the future or not? If not, send him to Cleveland for Quinn. That way, both teams could take a crack at fixing QBs the other one grossly mismanaged.

3.) Joe Flacco was really impressive in the Ravens loss to the Vikings. Kept bringing them back in the fourth quarter. It was unfortunate though that they lost on a missed 44 yarder.

4.) Always fun to see a Bills kicker miss a field goal at the end of regulation wide right.

5.) I realize the Giants defense isn't a good as it played in the first five weeks, but it can't be as bad as it played on Sunday, can it? The commentators kept mentioning how they were banged up on defense. While that's true, there biggest losses on defense so far are DBs. The DBs weren't the most worrying part of the defense, Drew Brees had all day to throw. If the Giants can't get pressure with sending four or five, they're in some trouble.

6.) The Eagles ran the ball 14 times. In a close game. That they lost. To the Raiders.

7.) Dan Snyder is doing everything he can to get Jim Zorn to resign. Apparently they've a lot of money locked up on him and firing him will make them pay. SO they continue to humiliate him by giving more and more power to Sherm Lewis. It'll be interesting to see if Zorn cracks.

8.) The Rams will not go 0-16. I promise. I know I said that last year about the Lions, but it can't happen in back to back years!

9.) With all the bad quarterbacking going on, how is Jeff Garcia still available? Why wouldn't the Rams sign him? On top of that, how is David Carr a backup for the Giants? He could be starting for a handful of teams right now.

10.) LDT showing signs of life. Who knew? I was getting ready to cut him in my fantasy league. I guess I'll hold off on that.

Limrick of the Week

Here is the mighty NFC East

Some call it the NFC Beast

But after Sunday' s games

I'm filled with shames

Guess I'll call it the NFC Least.

Till next week

Week 5 Tuesday Afternoon Reserve Punter

Got a question about sunglasses etiquette. Alright, you leave home in the morning when it's sunny out. So you put on your shades and go out for the day. Fine. Later that day, when you're about to head home it's totally overcast. It's dark.

So the problem with sunglasses is that you need to walk a fine. Shades can either look cool or make you look like a jerk. Outside on a sunny day: cool. Indoors: idiot. But, what am I supposed to do when the day becomes overcast? You've no place to put your shades. What do you do? Can you wear your sunglasses? Or do you like an idiot?

Anyway, on to the TARP

Week 5 Power Rankings

1.) Indy Colts
2.) N.O. Saints
3.) Minny Vikings
4.) Denver Broncos
5.) New York Giants
6.) Chicago Bears
7.) Cincy Bengals
8.) Pittsburgh Steelers
9.) Philly Eagles
10.) New York Jets

Week 5 Thoughts I Think I Thought About Thinking

1.) Peyton Manning is playing the position of quarterback better than I've ever seen it played. I've seen Elway, Favre, Aikman, Marino, Young, Brady, but what Manning's doing is ridiculous.

2.) JaMarcus Russell is playing the position of quarterback as bad as I've ever seen it played. I've seen Dave Brown, Danny Kannell, Kent Graham and those were just the Giants. Have seen the Detmers, Aaron Brooks, Ryan Leaf, Akili Smith, Jim Druckenmiller, among many others. At least Russell makes me feel that I', al,ost as good as a starting NFL QB.

3.) Disappointing performance by the Jets defense. To be fair, it was only one game, but it was a division rival. It was really surprising because the Ravens shut down the Wildcat last year, but the Dolphins Wildcatted the Jets to death. In the fourth quarter the Jets D was scored on more times than [Censored ].

4.) The Broncos are for real. Not only have they go 5-0, not only did they beat the Pats, but they did so while paarading around in those hideous uniforms. Those were the things things on a football field since LT bent Theisman's leg the wrong way.

5.) The Niners were surprisingly undisicplined against the Falcons. Blown coverages all over the place. They were forced to burn a timeout because Coffee didn't realize that the wideout hadn't scored so wasn't on the field. Then there was Dre Bly, who started celebrating his pick wile returning a pick and was tackled and fumbeled away the ball. Atrocious.

6.) If Matt Hasselbeck can stay healthy, the West race could be very interesting. More importantly, how come I didn't get the memo that Matt Hasselbeck should now be referred to as Matthew? On that subject, when did Knoshon Moreno change his last name to Marino?

7.) It's a start, but the Cowboys should not be too excited about their overtime win against Kansas City. A great team sometimes edges a terrible team, but the Cowboys are not a great team and would not have been taking the Chiefs lightly. So what we saw with Dallas is probably what we'll get all year.

8.) Breylon Edwards will be a help to the Jets. I think he's going to have a renewed vigor and he might cut down on some of his drops eventually. Still Chad Henne outplayed Mark Sanchez.

9.) Terrible job by the Texans. Down by seven with third and goal at the two. They run two plays. Fine, but you can't run any play, let alone those who decide the game, without Andre Johnson on the field. There is no offensive situation in which your best offensive player shouldn't be on the field. Okay, you take your best offensive player off the field, but you also take the second best offensive player off the field too? There's absolutely no circumstance in which your best two offensive players shouldn't be in the offensive lineup. None. At least make the defense think about Johnson. Who's calling these plays?

10.) Excited about the Giants visiting the Superdome this week. We're going to learn a lot about the NFC Postseason this weekend.

Limrick of the Week

I decided that this was so special it only deserved to be in this spot"

I'd rather be driven in a hearse
Than watch the Brown-Bills curse
Their offenses blew
Defenses suck too
Still the Broncos unis were worse

AIght till next week...
