Week 16 Teusday Afternoon Reserve Punter

Everywhere you turn nowadays people are doing decade retrospectives. Hey, I'm not above that. The one innovation of the decade (Though technically it was launched in June of 99, it became mainstream in 2000 so gimme a break) that doesn't get nearly enough due is none other than Napster. Napster doesn't get nearly enough credit. It changed how we view the internet and transformed numerous industries.

Though Napster was eventually sunk by Metallica, it's effects are still felt today. The idea of being able to download anything, anything, off the internet was launched by Napster. It spawned iTunes and Netflix. It led to all sorts of offshoots like KaZaa, Morpheus, and Limewire. That wasn't enough so torrents came into existence. The only real negative that came from Napster is the crash of PC video games. Video game retailers are bailing out of PC left and right. EA has given up on PC almost entirely because of pirated software. Still, I don't think Napster gets nearly as much credit as it deserves.

I heard yesterday that people are trying to push something through government that'll eliminate free antenna TV entirely. That's ridiculous. Why would you do that? Trust me, people who are using antennas want cable or dish, but for whatever reason, they can't. Why are you going to screw them? What's next then? Are you gonna ban free radio? Force everyone to get satellite? Really, you can't go there.

I do have an idea of what the someone should do in the movie industry. A website like Netflix should try to buy exclusive rights to a new movie. The only way to watch the movie would be to go to the website. The only reason people go to the theaters at all is because that's the only place to watch the movie. The theatre buisness will die out, whoever jumps on this ship first will make out best.

Anyway, on to the TARP.

Week 16 Thoughts I Think I Thought About Thinking

1.) I don't understand what the Colts are doing. Relaxing for three weeks before a big game is not a recipe for success. If the Colts rest in week 17, they will not be going to Miami.

2.) Never saw a game turn on one play that didn't result in any score than early in the Giants-Panthers game. On their first drive, the Giants marched down the field meeting zero resistance. They had a TD pass called back by holding. So on third and long, they hit a pass that would've resulted in a first down except Mario Manningham fumbled. Bad fumble, yeah, but the Panthers are going with Matt Moore and John Stewart. Shouldn't be too much of an issue. They go down and kick for three. Okay. Suddenly, the Giants can't stop the Panthers and the offense can no longer move the ball. I don't know what happened to the offense, but it suddenly disappeared.

3.) The Vikings are in some serious trouble. Their defense has been figured out and AP's not the focal point of the offense. With the Vikes and Saints struggling, the NFC's wide open.

4.) I'd be weary of the Steelers at this point. They seem to be peaking at the right time. Every year, it seems, a team that looked weak all year suddenly catches fire and shoots through the playoffs (Cards last year, Giants the year before that) and I think Pittsburgh has the best shot for that. It can't be an NFC team because none of those teams would shock the world by making the Super Bowl.

5.) Something I forgot to write last week. In the Falcons-Jets game (the one in which Ryan hit Gonzalez for the win at the end) on third and goal with the game on the line, Atlants ran a designed rollout pass. It failed, but they won on fourth so I forgot to mention this. Is there a dumber play call than a rollout near the goal line? You hear it all the time, it's harder to pass in the red zone because you've less space with which to work. So at the goal line you run a designed roll out and cut the already limited space by 70%? What logic is in that?

6.) Speaking of goal line plays and formations, the jumbo package needs to be eliminated. It's really very little help. You bring in all your big guys to try to pick up a yard and the D does the same to stop you. Why not spread the defense out and give your back more room to work with? I'm not saying go four wide (though sometimes that might be smart too), but something as simple as two wide on each side. Just so everyone's not packed in one spot. I would throw almost exclusively from the jumbo package.

7.) Guess Peyton doesn't love to play football as much as Favre because he listened to his coach when told to get out of the game.

8.) Thank you to my fantasy team for exploding during the fantasy playoffs. Too bad it tanked for the 8 weeks leading up to the playoffs so I wasn't playing.

9.) Maybe it's because I root for a rival NFC East team, but watching Brian Dawkins's enterance into the game against the Eagles made me wonder how anyone can root for a guy like that. Was he a great player? Absolutely. Overrated as a hitter, but a terrific ball hawking safety. Still, somebody who's such a glory hound, it's got to get annoying seeing that every week. It's all contrived too. It's not like it's just an emotional reaction. You can't convince me that he didn't spend at least an hour practicing his ballet routine before going out there on Sunday. Maybe if he'd spent less time dancing, he'd have done a better job tackling McCoy. And don't feed me that crap that you loved Philly or the organization. As soon as you could've made more money else where, you jumped ship wo fast I thought there was a WR on the ground you saw you could late hit. And don't say Philly didn't want him back. They just didn't want to pay him as much as Denver did. THink they'd rather have Dawkins rather than Macho Harris?

10.) Can you tell I'm bitter that my team's done?

Limerick of the Week

Of my playoff dreams the Giants were snatchers
They let the Matt More and Stewart be their dispatchers
In my stomach was the kick'
It really made me sick
Now just countin down the days till pitchers and catchers

Peace
